In the first part of the series on the Senate elections that will be held on October 9 and 10, 2026, we outlined the powers of the Senate as defined in our constitutional order and that it is not entirely easy to change them and abolish the Senate, if the elections did not turn out like in Hungary (now I am thinking of the legislative will and rape of democracy that Magyar unleashed thanks to a very comfortable constitutional majority). In the next installments, we will look at well-known, prominent candidates who are vying for the favor of voters. Who are those who repeatedly fight for your favor and will try to defend their mandate?

Senate elections, part one: If we can't cancel it, at least don't donate it

Senate elections will take place in the Czech Republic on October 9 and 10, 2026. These are 27 constituencies where the mandate of senators elected in 2020 ends. 153 candidates will fight for 27 seats, which is less than in the last senate elections, because the current opposition has agreed on jointly supported candidates. Just for comparison, in the last senate elections, 235 candidates competed for the favor of the voters.
