Czech film and television director, screenwriter and teacher. He was born in 1945 in Kladno and is one of the prominent personalities of Czech drama and television production. His films are often characterized by psychological depth, an emphasis on moral dilemmas and darker social contexts. His well-known works include, for example, The End of Solitude Berhof, Scalpel, Please, The Curse of the House of Hajnů, Just About Family Matters, The Velveteen Killers and TV projects such as Jan Hus, Rašín and Murderous Shadows. In addition to directorial and screenwriting work, he was also active in teaching, especially at FAMU.
