JOURNALISM PRACTICE 2026

The media, social networks and politicians try to get our attention and influence our opinions every day. How to keep your own judgment? How to recognize manipulation, verify information and write a text that stands up to the facts?

In August 2025, it was organized by the Havlíčkobrod associationJOURNALISM PRACTICEevent called "SLOVO DO PRANICE". The three-day event was focused on practical and general topics associated with independent written and spoken journalistic work. The aim of the lectures was to enrich the journalistic competence of those interested, and to strengthen their determination to publish so that they do not have to be ashamed of it in life. The effort was also to find out what would be the interest among the actors of the so-called alternative scene in an event of this kind.

Due to the positive responses, we decided to organize a course for the practical strengthening of "media literacy" as a continuation of "Words to laundry".

The practical will have three thematic parts plus a conclusion. Each part will begin with a lecturer's introduction to the issue, analysis of examples and assignment of tasks to trainees (it is assumed that everyone will have their own computer). The interns will then prepare their tasks, which will be demonstrated together at the end of the day, discussed and evaluated by the lecturer. At the end of the course, graduates will receive a certificate of completion.

At the beginning of the course, a greeting from the course guarantor, Lenka Procházková, will be presented.

The first topic(August 17, 2026) will be a stylistic exercise, as the old news experience is that information is only as valuable as the recipient understands it. The journalist must be intimately familiar with the environment to which he addresses his text, and he must be able to present the same information intelligibly both in a simple way and in a more complex argumentative manner. The lecturer will be Mrs. Eva Miláčková Vildmanová.

The second topic(August 18, 2026) will be the search and verification of source information for a certain event and their concise processing into the final form. We live in a time of many lying tricks and it is necessary to constantly strengthen the ability to recognize fakes, even if they look desirable and friendly. The introduction will be a lecture on argumentative fouls. The practical task will then be to compile a report on the event chosen by the lecturer from the searched information, indicating their different plausibility. The lecturer will be docent Petr Žantovský.

The third topic(August 19, 2026) will be editorial work, especially the art of shortening texts. At a time when readers and listeners are bombarded with tons of letters and decibels of sound, it is necessary to save their time so that they receive information that is clear, understandable and perfectly structured - and all this in a very economical format. We will discuss the structure of the text, the deformation of the text, the vocabulary, grammar and correct Czech, shifting the meaning of words, weed words and repetition of words in speech. The practical task will be editorial editing of a long text into several shorter, short or telegraphic formats, while preserving the meaning of the message. The lecturer will be Mr. Luděk Bednář.

The fourth topic, with which we will end the entire event on the morning of August 20, 2026, will be an outline of analytical methods based on the old rabbinic interpretation matrix (Jan Schneider will present).

At the end, the participants will evaluate the experience of the entire event and receive from the organizers a certificate of completion of this media literacy course signed by the course guarantor, Lenka Procházková.
