The Constitutional Court intervened with lightning speed

The dispute over the participation of President Petr Pavel at the NATO meeting did not end with a political agreement, but with a preliminary measure of the Constitutional Court. Alena Vitásková asks why, at a time of wartime tension, a competence battle for prestige is being waged in the Czech Republic, instead of talking about peace, diplomacy and the future of children whose holidays have just started.

President Petr Pavel won the dispute with the government, he will go to the NATO meeting. He got his ticket from the supreme justice. Not of God, but of the Constitutional Court. Divided societies, when the graves of a million moments have emerged, like it. On the other hand, the majority of citizens do not care who goes where. But the more inquisitive ones wonder why such a miserable dispute actually arose? What will be discussed at the NAT0 meeting in this turbulent time, full of tension and war conflicts, that the biggest mela on the Czech political and judicial scene has taken place.

Will it be a diplomatic solution to war conflicts, or will the world prepare for war? Will they want to send our children to die?

For our children, regardless of whether the school year has ended at the age of preschoolers, schoolchildren, apprentices or students, they have received their certificates, many are happy with the results they have achieved. Some have to repeat their studies and prepare for resit exams, but that is also part of life. They are preparing for their future professions, they are full of expectations from the holidays and joy, which we mostly experienced in the past during this period. Our children, the future of the nation.

Who among the unwelded constitutional agents remembered that "our children, the future of the nation" are experiencing these days the first days of vacation, for them the most beautiful period, while they perform a theater for the nation, who has the "greater power" or the truth?

Who should be their role model? The head of state – a former soldier of the Czechoslovak People's Army, swearing allegiance to the then socialist country and its people? That intelligence officer, a communist, who eventually defended us on the opposite side of the "barricade" in the NATO structures? And now as a president who has again sworn to serve this nation, to defend us as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and is seeking support in court against the government? Or the government headed by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, Foreign Minister Petr Macinka and other entourage, who, in my opinion, are rightfully heading to the NATO meeting? Who goes to the session to fight for our homeland not with weapons, but through diplomacy? Acting on the fact that we want to live in peace and not expose our children to the horrors of war.

Children do not perceive what is happening around them, they do not realize at all what atrocities are committed in wars. They are "educated" from internet games that it's just a "reality show". They take one of the drugs that are commonly sold there in a freely available machine somewhere near the school, and if someone really wants to harm them, they get on a "kite" and fly away.

But the reality is different. Does a former soldier, intelligence officer, communist really want to look for peaceful solutions? Or he wants to help war-impoverished Ukraine with weapons and deepen the conflict. The prime minister and the government want to solve aid to Ukraine not with weapons, but with subsequent help in the reconstruction of this country, as the prime minister has already expressed himself.

We must be able to evaluate which of them will be more useful for our country, our children, in participating in the upcoming NATO meeting in Turkey.

In any case, most are surprised that the Constitutional Court had to decide this matter. With unprecedented speed (at which even lightning was chasing them) he issued a preliminary measure. Did he oblige the government? Did he order the government? Did he task the minister? for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to nominate President Petr Pavel for the NATO meeting in Turkey. I don't know what would have happened if the junior official forgot to send the nomination on Friday (when the deadline was for sending it) or made a mistake. This also happens in offices, and often much more. I can't imagine what will happen in a country that has many serious problems. (For God's sake, if only the clerk had not forgotten to send it properly in the heat.)

I wish the courts, following the model of the Constitutional Court, would act as lightning fast also at other levels, where disputes are resolved for decades, and often quite badly, in violation of law and justice. I will cite one of thousands of cases like the death of an innocent child, where the court entrusted the little girl to the custody of the father, who shortly afterwards brought her to death. Now the Minister of Justice, Jaroným Tejc, is dealing with it and is filing disciplinary proceedings against the judge. And the public is probably wondering why only disciplinary proceedings? Does anyone think she will stand trial and have her life ruined by a longtime "criminal"? Or will her pay be cut for three months and then be promoted? Or it will make a noise...

Again, for the millionth time. Politicians, legislators are responsible for the state of justice. Only they can change the laws. And then it is not surprising that the Constitutional Court decided quickly that it allowed the president to participate in the NATO meeting, even though the government decided otherwise. I'm not debating whether he should go there or not. I am debating the state of our society. Instead of the "law and order" that the president promised us before the election, a competence lawsuit is being filed against the government, the polarization of society is further deepening, there are frog fights and we have completely forgotten that the school year is ending and the children's vacation season is starting.
