Negotiations in Ulaanbaatar and the UN conference: The historical footprint of Czechoslovakia and substantive solutions to climate challenges
As part of my Asian work trip, I held a series of meetings with key members of the local parliament in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar, with the participation of the Czech ambassador and the EU ambassador. In Mongolia, the Czech Republic continues a rich tradition dating back to the days of Czechoslovakia - from the successful return of the Převalské horse in cooperation with the Prague Zoo, through geological exploration and mining, housing construction and transport infrastructure to the supply of L-410 aircraft and Czech firearms. I presented the Mongolian partners with concrete possibilities for expanding economic and technical cooperation with the new, pragmatic leadership of the Czech executive.
Greetings from Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), where we had several very pleasant meetings with distinguished Members of Parliament. The Czech Republic has long-standing relations with Mongolia, dating back to the days of Czechoslovakia, which are not only limited to culture and nature (Převalský's horse, in cooperation with the Prague Zoo), but also in the field of mining, building apartments or parts of the highway, and our firearms and aircraft (L410) also have a good reputation. In the future, we could expand the cooperation even further.
I successfully explained all this to my fellow MPs thanks to excellent preparation from our ambassador in Mongolia, who devoted a lot of time to me. And in the presence of the EU ambassador, an experienced diplomat who previously served at UNESCO and in China. If we carried out this kind of high-quality diplomacy everywhere, like the Czech Republic and like Europe, we would be better off security-wise and economically than we are now. Perhaps it is not so much a matter of the diplomats on the ground as of the politicians who manage the diplomacy. In the Czech Republic, we changed the government for the better last year, which I did not forget to mention in Mongolia.
I also participated in the UN conference on desertification - preventing the creation of deserts. Now we are troubled by heat waves, drought, but also occasional floods. Activism will not solve this, but good scientific and technical work, well-managed conservation programs, to which our universities can also contribute. And often it is also the farmers who manage their own land and have a relationship with it, who can best say what is right and what is wrong - better than big businessmen who only see short-term profit in land management. I also said that in two appearances for Mongolian state television and in a 20-minute "live" directly from the conference for Euronews, in fluent English with a beautiful hard Czech accent, which will probably stay with me :)
