Debate in Brussels on the anniversary of the USA: Woke agenda and political non-profits came from America, Europe is not responsible for them
At the conservative Matthias Corvinus Collegium in Brussels, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the USA, I directly confronted American speakers who, following the example of J.D. Vance, criticized the current decline of Europe. I asked them where all the woke agendas, BLM and political non-profits sponsored by USAID or NED came to us, and who brought this direction to our conservative regions. Additionally, based on my own academic experience in Missouri during my Fulbright Fellowship, I caution against blindly adopting the American model, especially when it comes to efforts to privatize our functioning public health care system.
Today the conservative Matthias Corvinus Collegium in Brussels, for the 250th anniversary of the US. American speakers said, along with J.D. Vance, how broken Europe is. Yes, undoubtedly, but why? Where did the woke agendas, LGBTQ+, BLM come from? Where did the money from USAID or NED come from, sponsoring crazy non-profits dabbling in politics? A lobbyist from which country "sharpened the diamond" of Petr Pavlo and arranged for his election? So who is to blame for EU policy being the way it is? Who dragged all this into our moderate, decent, socially conservative regions? I asked rather cheekily and it was a very nice debate.
As you may know, I was on a Fulbright scholarship at St. Louis University in Missouri - not as a colleague Farský in political training, but twenty years back, when a lot of things were still right there, in health law. It was there that they told me not to even think of privatizing healthcare and that we are happy for the public, free healthcare that we have, unlike in the USA. I listened to them.
In Missouri, the people were straightforward, honest people who don't mince words - their informal nickname is the "Show-Me State" (meaning "when you show it to me, then I'll believe it". It's from a century-old quote by their congressman Vandiver: "I come from a state that raises corn and cotton and cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have got to show me." I had a lot of it there glad, it was a good year. I wish them and us a change of circumstances for the better.
